About the Art
Tom Weinkle sees his art as a portal from which we can sense the world.
His current work is the result of an effort to call attention to moments of time
and place that he believes are hidden away and sometimes, in full view.
Weinkle has described his recent work in one way by offering: "I'm trying to use
regional landscapes to explore the intersection of place with time and memory."
In a way, Weinkle's works are glimpses and gateways into the private worlds that
exist within each of us. His images invite us to study our own place within
the context of our natural surroundings.
The current work has been created primarily in soft pastel, combined with
a variety of liquid mediums to achieve more painterly results.
The varying style of his current paintings is a result of his interest in
experimenting with the application and manipulation of pigments.
While a large part of Weinkle's art can be described as representational,
some more recent pieces tend to explore the confines of that category.
